Ahileshwar temple complex, Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh

T his heartland of India where lifeline river of many states flows is a town setup by Ahilyabai Holkar. In ancient time the place was known as Mahismati. Later it was almost diminished from the mind of the people and then Ahilyabai in 18th century decided to make Maheshwar a capital of her Maratha kingdom, it gained more importance. Maheshwar is worth a study for students of arts and architecture. In fact this visit was made in the 1st year of my Bachelor in Architecture. Nagar style of architecture  The Ahileshwar temple complex consist of  cenotaph and a temple. Complex ascends towards town and descends towards the river through a steps and intricately carved entrances. Women in their Ghunghats takes rest , Men in paghdi and dhoti kurta with a stick in the hand commutes everyday to the river from the town through the complex.
