The great Stupa of Sanchi, India

On a hill in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, Sanchi Stupa is a prominent temple of  Buddhist. As many other Stupas, foundation stone of Sanchi Stupa was also led by King Ashok. When he commissioned the stupa it was in brick which later on was covered with stone and monolithic railings. The round structure splendidly stands with height of 21.6 meters and diameter of 36.5 meters. The five fundamental features of  stupa are  1. Anda - hemispherical dome 2. Chhatra - Central pillar with three Umbrellas 3. Harmika - Square railing surrounding Chhatra 4. Toran - Decorations on Top of the gateways located at four cardinal points 5. Medhi - A circumnavigating pathway
